Exploring The Co-existence Phenomena

heading the co exist series

In the Co-exist Series, Dr. Choong expressed the notion of the phenomena of co-existence of different elements, aspects and situations as well as thinking and attitudes in the transforming process of a society towards a shared future in the global digital environment. Aspects such as traditional and modern, actual and virtual, yin and yang, spiritual and materialistic, conservative and fashionable, science and humanity, remote land and local home, etc. are the message that he intends to convey.

In these works, combinations of simplified shapes and structures of traditional objects like bamboo basket, straw mat, traditional seal design, old Chinese print texts from the ancient book of Yi Jing, English texts and modern QR code are commonly found as a means to reflect the notion of co-existence of different forms of entities and human thinking in our contemporary society. The juxtaposition of geometric shapes, organic forms, definite shapes, undefined areas, warm hues and cold colors in the work denotes the phenomena of inter-complementary and inter-dependence of opposite characters and confronting matters in our living environment.
