Dr Choong was born and educated in Malaysia, and furthered his studies in Taiwan and USA. As such, he has been fully exposed to Malay, Chinese and Western cultures in his pursuit of life. In the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural society of Malaysia, he treasured and enjoyed in preserving his ancestral heritage and cultural practice. His interpretation of cultural practice and values through the visual means may be seen in his Dragon and Kungfu series of works. The Dragon series conveyed the message that "THE DRAGON TRADITION AND SPIRIT HAS BEEN TRANVERSING REGIONS AND CROSSING ERA TO REMAIN AS THE DYNAMIC FORCE OF MAN". On the hand, the portrayal of body movements and postures of manipulating the qi or energy during kungfu practices together with the incorporation of the kungfu manual texts (either in static form or running calligraphy) is to express a kind of visual dynamics and the associated meanings, the Oriental thought and spirit, in his Kungfu. | ||||
