The creation of this series 16 years ago was inspired by the arrival of the New Millennium which fell in the year of Dragon of the lunar calendar. The re-interpretation of the shape of legendary dragon and the application of vibrant colours was intended to manifest the notion of dynamism, mightiness and adventurous spirit symbolized by the Dragon which has been inherited in Chinese culture for thousands of years. Hand painting and silk screening techniques were innovatively used to obtain the best visual results. |

龙的作品所表达的内涵,主要是诠释和表达龙的精神和中华文化的传统价值象征。 龙的精神源自远古,横跨神州,也遍布了郑和所到的海上丝路沿途各邦,特别是马来西亚和新加坡;它不仅是华胄子民,也是海外华族生命的推动力,生存的奋斗力和精神寄托。在马来西亚的华族的生活习俗中,龙被尊奉为吉祥的象征和奋斗迈进的驱动力,也是镇宅驱魔的灵物,龙的图腾和造像,几乎存在于每一传统式家的庭天公神龛上,龙的精神是海外华族文化价值不可或缺的一部分。 龙的系列的出现,是 16 年前锺博士对新千年,新世纪的来临的一种兴奋心情而作的。公元 2000 年又逢农历的龙年,他希望通过以龙为象征,表述对新千年的期望。 通过通书及易经文字及龙的剪纸造型的重新处理,印刷字体和书法的并用,再敷以鲜明色彩及跃动笔触,在画面表达传统习俗仍是今日生活所不能或缺的一部分的理念以及龙所象征的各种含义。 |
